Leitersburg Road Bridge
Title
Leitersburg Road Bridge
History
This two arch span built by John Weaver in 1839 was located at Leiters State Line Road over Antietam Creek and is the most northerly of the bridges of the Antietam Creek in Washington County . Nearby was a gristmill , Strite’s Mill , purchased by Christian Strite in 1843 . Strite added a wing to the existing mill to grind plaster . In 1982 , the northeast corner of the bridge fell into Antietam Creek causing significant damage to the bridge wall . The bridge was repaired and altered by adding an under drain system , stone repointing , concrete caps and a concrete collar at the base of the pier .
