1 Div Citation for Gallantry in Action. An officer of distinguished ability and devotion to duty, for his gallant and efficient services in the Aisne-Marne, St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne Offensives. As battalion surgeon he attended the wounded under heavy shell and machine gun fire with utter disregard of his personal safety. He was killed in the last battle of the war while making his way forward to the advanced dressing station.
